Axiomtek announced a digital signage computer that includes a 42-inch display and a choice of Celeron or Core 2 Duo processors. The DSA-132 features a removable CPU board, an available infrared touchscreen, a PCI Express x4 expansion slot, up to 2GB of DDR3 RAM, two speakers, and room for a SATA hard disk drive, the company says.According to Axiomtek, its 31.5-inch DSA-132 is designed to be installed in public and commercial spaces, conveying information such as advertising, news, and information, and can be operated around the clock. An infrared touchscreen is an available option, the company adds.
Axiomtek says the fanless device employs a removable CPU board, making configuration and maintenance simpler. If this sounds familiar, it's because the company has touted a similar arrangement for previous products, such as the 42-inch DSA-142 and 46-inch DSA-146 it announced last year. Axiomtek also released the DSA-200 (below), a slimline PC that appeared to offer the same board but is designed to hang on the back of separately available monitors.
We presume the DSA-200 again forms the computing heart of the DSA-132. However, the above-mentioned products were said to include Mini PCI Express expansion slots, whereas Axiomtek cites its latest offering as having a PCI Express x4 slot instead.
The DSA-132 certainly resembles its forebears in using Intel's GM45 mobile chipset, which supports installation of 2.0GHz Celeron M 575 or 2.53GHz Core 2 Duo T9400 processors, according to Axiomtek. The PC has two SODIMM slots and accepts up to 2GB of DDR3 RAM, the company adds.
The DSA-132 offers 1920 x 1080 resolution (for HD video compatibility), a 1200:1 contrast ratio, and a 450-nit brightness rating. It also includes a front bezel that meets IP65 standards for resistance to dust and liquids, and provides two speakers with four-Watt amplifiers, says Axiomtek.
According to Axiomtek, the DSA-132 has a 2.5-inch bay that can accept a SATA hard disk drive or solid state disk. It offers two gigabit Ethernet ports, VGA and DVI video outputs, four USB 2.0 ports, and two serial ports, the company adds.
The image reproduced earlier in our story implies that Axiomtek also offers a webcam or some sort of specialized sensor mounted on top of the DSA-132. However, no information was provided regarding this.

Axiomtek did not release pricing or operating system support details for the DSA-132 but said the device is available now. More information may be found on the company's website, DSA-132 product page.
