Apple issues Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 3 8

Apple has posted Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 3.8, a new add-on for OS X Lion and Snow Leopard.The download expands the number of native RAW formats supported by iPhoto '11 and Aperture 3.RAW files represent unprocessed photo data, unlike the JPEGs many cameras default to.Cameras newly supported in the update include the Sony Alpha NEX-C3 and SLT-A35, the Samsung NX11 and N100, and Panasonic's LUMIX DMC-G3 and DMC-GF3, as well as the Olympus PEN E-P3 and the Konica Minolta DiMAGE A200.The download measures 6.91MB, and requires OS X 10.6.5 or better.Compatible Macs should already be seeing the file appear in Software Update.

I don't know what cameras you buy, but pretty much any prosumer-grade fixed lens, mirrorless, or DSLR defaults to JPEG, but is capable of shooting RAW and/or JPEG+RAW.Was true of my old Panasonic superszoom FZ-10, my G1 (and everything else in Panasonic's m43 lineup), my new E-P2 (and everything else in Olympus' m43 lineup), Canon's low-end (and possibly high-end) DSLRs, and I believe Nikon's as well.
Most pros shoot either JPEG+RAW or RAW-only, but probably 70% of the people with prosumer-grade cameras don't even know what RAW is, let alone that their camera is capable of shooting it.
That said, I'm glad Apple is keeping up with new m43 cameras, but where the heck is the DNG5.4 support?!It's been out for over two years now, and while Apple clearly has support for the lens correction that 5.4 added to the DNG format (to handle m43 cameras, at the time), since they support nearly every m43 camera, STILL no DNG 5.4.Come on, Apple, add that and you automatically support every camera Adobe does, which is pretty much everything!
