Ability Altek see 1H11 gross margins fall

Post on: 2011-08-30 By: admin

Digital camera makers Ability Enterprise and Altek saw gross margins for first-half 2011 slip on year by 3.11 percentage points and 1.74 percentage points respectively mainly because of falling average selling prices (ASPs), according to the companies' financial reports.Ability, which revealed that first-half 2011 ASPs dropped 10-15% from year-earlier levels, shipped 11.5 million digital cameras in the first six months of 2011, increasing 7% on year. But consolidated revenues for the period decreased nearly 15%.As material costs, ASPs and foreign exchange rates tend to become stable, it expects its gross margin to rebound in the third quarter of 2011.Ability Enterprise: Financial results, 1H11 (NT$ m) Item 2Q11 Q/Q 1H11 Y/Y Consolidated revenues 10,663 0.22% 21,303 (14.96%) Gross margin 6.55% (0.62pp) 6.86% (3.11pp) Net operating profit 180 (31.03%) 441 (69.35%) Net profit 177 (18.06%) 393 (70.43%) Net EPS (NT$) 0.39 0.88 Source: Company, compiled by Digitimes, August 2011Altek: Financial results, 1H11 (NT$ m) Item 2Q11 Q/Q 1H11 Y/Y Consolidated revenues 7,161 23.85% 12,943 1.08% Gross margin 9.08% 0.57pp 8.83% (1.74pp) Net operating profit 211 30.25% 372 (41.05%) Net profit 274 44.21% 464 (29.91%) Net EPS (NT$) 0.73 1.24 Source: Company, compiled by Digitimes, August 2011
